Plateau de Gergovie
Fallen into oblivion, Gergovia was identified in the 16th century by Gabriel Simeoni, a Florentine scholar and connoisseur of Caesar's text. The first archaeological excavations of the site and the discovery of Roman camps date back to the reign of Napoleon III.
